ESMA members compete… on a football pitch

30 games took place in this years indoor edition30 games took place in this year's indoor editionWith 146 goals scored in 30 games, the ESMA Football Tournament 2017 will go down in history as the most prolific edition of the event. The 5-a-side system clearly contributed to the high scores but also allowed more member companies to be involved and enjoy a day full of emotions, fun and very fair competition. Saati proved to be the tournament team par excellence, raising from game to game and winning the trophy.

Organised in Orsay by Paris with Machines Dubuit as the hosting party, the tournament had a strong French representation, including also Encres Dubuit and Fimor. Other teams were presented by EPTA, Kissel+Wolf, Marabu, Saati and Sefar. In total 12 teams from 8 ESMA member companies started the competition in 3 groups.

Everything went very fast, with one game lasting 20 minutes and played in breath-taking  pace which required excellent physical condition. The teams with the best reflexes and those familiar with the specific futsal rules where clearly in advantage. Sefar and Marabu Tigers dominated their group opponents by scoring respectively 19 and 16 goals at that stage. Saati, the winners of ESMA Football Tournament 2017Saati, the winners of ESMA Football Tournament 2017The group with Saati was more balanced but in the end it were the Italians who saved the best performance for the final, winning 5:0 against Marabu Tigers. Sefar won the 3rd place after defeating the EPTA team.

“It is exciting to be back with Saati at the ESMA Football Tournament and see many of the old friends still playing”, said Pietro Giuliani, the ex-player and currently manager of the Saati team, “Being one of the founders of the event which was launched in Italy more than 15 years ago, I’m amazed by the number of teams who still enjoy the tournament. It is a unique way to aggregate people from different companies which on daily basis compete in the specialist printing market.”

ESMA Football Tournament 2017 closed with a joint dinner and discussions about the next edition which most likely will take place in 2019.
