AFIP 2019 to provide new inspirations for print in production

The Advanced Functional and Industrial Printing conference returns to Düsseldorf on 27-28 March 2019 with an even broader approach to printing technologies which serve the production processes of today and near future. ESMA members and non-members are welcome to submit their papers and contribute to an agenda full of learning, inspiration and networking. The conference brings together OEMs, suppliers, printers, researchers, production architects and designers.

AFIP 19 logo horizontalOrganised for the fourth time in its current guise, the AFIP conference is already an established brand on the industrial printing market and yet its formula leaves enough room for innovation and keeps on attracting many newcomers. The previous edition, in 2016, provided technology insights and real case scenarios from areas such as automotive, electronics or healthcare, including a speech on printed bio-sensors for diagnostics. One of the delegates, Gregory Gentile from Apple Inc., summed up the event as “an excellent mid-sized venue that focuses on new technology rather than sale of products – a great environment to learn and exchange ideas.”

By many considered as the key contribution to their technology roadmap, the conference continues to unite representatives of various market sectors. Next to major hardware, software and ink providers from the screen printing and digital inkjet world, AFIP welcomes input from technology users, emerging start-ups and academic institutions who want to highlight the latest available solutions and the future direction their research is leading them.

At the current stage, ESMA calls for submissions preferably on printed electronics, film insert moulding, automotive, in-mould decoration and in-mould electronics, name plates, industrial fascia, membrane switches, touch panels, sensors, printed batteries, anti-counterfeit, brand protection, bio-medical, consumer goods, colour control, functional coatings, printing with graphene, technical glass printing, technical textiles, thin film applications, process control and additive manufacturing.

The first confirmed keynote speakers include Prof. Timothy Claypole from the Welsh Centre for Printing and Coating at the Swansea University and Jesper Hassel, the CEO of the young Swedish company Mevia. Prof. Claypole will talk about the recent research in fine line printing of functional inks for automotive applications and Jesper Hassel will present Mevia’s “smart pill” technology which employs printing for pharmaceutical packaging.

Parallel to a conference programme of at least 20 high-level presentations, the networking part will feature 25 tabletop stands for more in-depth conversations and commercial information exchange. Among the early-bird exhibitors are Adphos, CST, Global Inkjet Systems, Grünig-SignTronic, Industrial Print Solutions, Marabu, Pröll and more bookings will follow soon.

Advanced Functional & Industrial Printing is organised by ESMA in cooperation with our media partners “Specialist Printing Worldwide”. The event takes place at the Radisson Blu Scandinavia hotel in Düsseldorf on 27-28th March 2019. The call for papers and an early-bird exhibitor booking are now open and all interested companies, as well as research institutes can apply by sending an e-mail to This email address is being protected from spambots.
